The designation of the Kato Pafos archaeological site as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1980 prompted an extensive initiative aimed at safeguarding and promoting the town's archaeological heritage while enhancing visitor access to comprehensive information. The site is home to ancient temples, rock-cut tombs, and Roman villas adorned with intricate mosaic floors, all of which showcase the advanced societies that once thrived in Pafos from the Neolithic period through the Hellenistic and Roman eras to the Byzantine period.

The Kato Pafos archaeological park further encompasses notable monuments such as the Asklepieion, the Odeon, the Agora, the Saranta Kolones fortress, and the basilica of Panagia Limeniotissa (Our Lady of the Harbour).

Pafos Castle stands as one of Cyprus’ most recognizable landmarks. Originally constructed as a Byzantine fort to defend the harbor, it underwent significant rebuilding by the Lusignans in the 13th century before being dismantled by the Venetians in 1570. The Ottomans restored it in the 16th century following their conquest of the island. Today, the castle exhibits features from both its Ottoman restoration and Venetian modifications.

Historically, Pafos Castle has served various purposes including that of a prison and a storage facility for salt during British colonial rule.
